프랑스 혁명에서 질서를 회복하십시오.

Steelrising is an action-packed role-playing video game wherein you must save Paris from a nightmarish alternate history. Developed by Spiders, this 3D atmospheric fantasy game lets you play as an extraordinary automaton who has to face off against a deadly mechanical army hellbent on bringing France to its knees.

As a story-rich action RPG, Steelrising features combat mechanics that allow you to define your own preferred play style with the wide variety of weapons and character skills available. This is quite important as the game’s world is vast and full of various automata enemies that require different strategies to defeat.

Is Steelrising open-world?

Steelrising is set in an alternate version of 18th-century Paris. The sudden popularity of automata led to ingenious designs by the brilliant engineer Vaucanson—which, in turn, led to the French Revolution failing due to King Louis XVI’s army of machines suppressing the resistance. As such, Paris ends up devastated and the people suffer as His Majesty continues his reign of terror. Queen Marie Antoinette eventually decides enough is enough.

You play as Aegis—the queen’s sentient automaton bodyguard and Vaucanson’s masterpiece—that has been tasked with stopping the king. Armed with deadly weapons and a highly adaptable robot body that can be upgraded in numerous ways, the game allows you to confront a wide range of unique mechanical enemies and bosses throughout the large map of Paris. The story also has Aegis getting drafted into political machinations and restarting the resistance.

Aside from the Souls-like combat mechanics, it offers an open-world map full of interesting areas and levels of verticality—with Aegis’ grappling hook and air dash skill letting you access hard-to-reach locations. However, take note that the in-game map itself isn’t interactive so you can’t just check and track your course on where you’re headed next. This makes exploration more difficult but also encourages players to pay attention to their surroundings.

A world overrun by machines

All in all, Steelrising is a great Souls-like title for any player, regardless of your experience with the subgenre. Its open-world map and various character classes make for high replayability. Additionally, the mere concept of uniquely-designed automata as combat machines in 18th century France is a cool one and the game’s gorgeous 3D graphics deliver just that. This is a highly recommended action-RPG title to try out.
